Not that we thought it would have been any different, but Portia Simpson Jamaica’s new and first female prime minister has missed the first opportunity to prove her mettle. Or did she?

Cast in concrete

The separation of Philip Paulwell from his ministerial responsibilities was pretty much cast in concrete had it not been from that bad batch of cement. The DJ Minister sung his praises to the elevation of Portia in the leadership race and in the tradition of the PNP it would be ungrateful to even accept his resignation had he the dignity to make such an offer.

PJ’s legacy

Portia made it abundantly clear that she will maintain the legacy of PJ Patterson and if there was any doubt, forget it. Her silence, not to mention the lack of leadership over the cement crisis is reminiscent of the action of her predecessor in times of need.

To be fair to her though, she cannot help it as the “mama song” resonates in her mind and like a good lullaby she is fast a sleep (at the wheel).
