Jamaican taxpayers were swindled over $30 billion in the five year period March 2015 to 2020 as special consumption tax (SCT) on fuel, purportedly to hedge against crude oil prices. It should be reallocated to build back public transit in Jamaica.

Give us this day
all persons in society contribute to the tax pot and in the case of a health crisis the pandemic does not discriminate. It is demeaning to conduct means test and doubly so to subject people to the bureaucracy of revenue agencies in applying for benefits (except USA)

The cumulative returns on the main market for the years 2015 to 2019 was 686.24% and junior market up 476.2%. The Jamaican dollar lost 15.62% vis-a-vis the United States dollar and cumulative inflation was 19.2%.

The worst performing stocks in 2018 did not do well in 2019, in fact some continued among the worse in 2019 e.g. Ciboney Group and GWEST Corp. The message is investors need to be more discerning in 2020

Antidemocratic principles of Andrew Holness
The Supreme Court of Jamaica has subsequently declared the entire law (NIDS) null and void and in violation of the constitution,it is now back to the drawing board but donít be surprised if Holness springs another blotter, as he is wont to do.
